Star Trek

“Space… the final frontier… these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s continuing mission; to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.” – The mission of the Enterprise NCC-1701-D, Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

One of the most treasured franchises of all time, Star Trek is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Thirteen movies, six TV shows, and still beloved by geeks and non-geeks alike. What else do I have to say?

Movies:

  1. The Motion Picture – The Enterprise takes a slow trip into an energy being that’s absorbing everything in its path.
  2. The Wrath of Khan – Kirk meets an old enemy who apparently read Moby Dick many times over, and one of Trek’s most celebrated characters sacrifices himself for the good of the ship and the franchise.
  3. The Search for Spock – The crew try and rescue Spock from a planet that was created on their last mission, and in the process, they fight Doc Brown. The Enterprise suffers a bit of damage as a result.
  4. The Voyage Home Basically, TMP. In San Francisco. With whales. And comedy. And less special effects.
  5. The Final Frontier – The crew fight God and pass a floor on the Enterprise twice! Spock enjoys marshmelons, as Scotty bangs his head on a ship’s beam.
  6. The Undiscovered Country – The last 20 years of the Cold War IN SPACE!!! Klingon prison ain’t fun, as Kirk and McCoy find out the hard way.
  7. Generations – Kirk and Picard have breakfast and encounter severe structural deficiencies, thanks to Malcolm McDowell. Oh, and Data sings.
  8. First Contact – Picard and the Enterprise crew go back in time to some farmland. Also, Picard wants to go full-blown Ahab on the Borg. Did you not watch Wrath of Khan?
  9. Insurrection – Picard and the Enterprise crew go to some other planet to investigate some Space Amish. Some smug Space Amish, in fact.
  10. Nemesis – Picard’s clone tries to rip off Wrath of Khan himself, because that’s what all the cool kids like to do. All he really manages to do is sink the TNG era of the franchise. Thanks, Stuart Baird.
  11. Star Trek 2009 – Young geeks join the Federation, including one James Tiberius Kirk. Their first mission sees them travel to a planet that is being laid waste to by somebody from an alternate dimension.
  12. Into Darkness – “Space Seed” and Wrath of Khan IN ABRAMSVISION!!!
  13. Beyond – Kirk and Co. get trapped on a planet after things go awry on the USS-Enterprise.
