“There has to be a way off this train that won’t kill me…

An anthology series created by Owen Dennis, Infinity Train revolves around a mysterious titular train, containing in its seemingly infinite cabins a series of parallel universes and realities. Passengers are given numbers, the rationale behind which confuses almost all new travelers, but which can go up or down depending on their actions onboard the train.

What this results in is, to my eyes, one of the most ingenious television series of recent years.

Book One – “The Perennial Child”: Tulip Olsen, a bookish teenager and aspiring game designer from Minnesota, legs it from her mother’s house after a rather nasty spat involving the latter’s recent divorce. In the middle of winter. As you can gather, she winds up on the train, ultimately traveling with a mysterious two-sided robot and a corgi king. With no knowledge of what the train entails, she desires to meet the conductor, hoping that it will be her path off the train.

His collaborative and non-confrontational personality contrasts with his primary traveling companion, a short-fused tomboyish chromatic being who rebelled against her “prime” in the reflection car, and the two find themselves legging it from the reflection cops.

Their encounters with a mysterious young girl and her protective gorilla guardian bring into question their biases against permanent residents of the train, and their notions about the locomotive’s history and politics are further rebutted when they encounter established figures. But will they adapt their philosophies when facing new information?
