“I am not a number! I AM A FREE MAN!”
As I prepare to review “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes”, I’ve decided to take a look at this classic bit of British science fiction alongside the Simpsons episodes I’m reviewing. I’m going in largely blind here, but this is what I know… Broadcast on the UK’s ITV network in 1967 and on America’s CBS around the same time, The Prisoner centers on a former British agent who winds up trapped on a penal colony after his resignation. His name? Unknown, as he merely becomes Number Six. The leader? Only known as Number One. What else is going on?
Well, there’s a bubble that eats people, for starters.
Apparently, ITV were complete idiots when it came to an appropriate airing order, and Amazon isn’t that much better. Therefore, I have decided to use the suggested order from The Prisoner appreciation society/fan club, Six of One.
